On the Brink is a group of people developing an intentional co-housing community based in Brincliffe House (hence our name) Sheffield, S11 9BB.
We aim to:
‘Create a living and working co-housing community that will provide affordable, sustainable, ecological housing and shared associated facilities, services and activities.’
Brincliffe House is on Osborne Road in Nether Edge about 3.5 miles from the centre of Sheffield. It will make the base for a wonderful co-housing community. The house itself is substantial rather than architecturally significant. Brincliffe House was built in about 1850 for the family of Herbert Unwin who was the owner of Pond Street Brewery. The house is not listed, but is firmly within the Nether Edge Conservation Area. The house (total 670 m2), is large enough to convert into about twelve living spaces and we are working with architects Tatlow Stancer to do this. It is set in 1.3 acres of wooded garden and it may be possible to extend the existing building. There will be communal facilities either in the house itself or included as part of a potential new build extension.
Having purchased the site in autumn 2015 plans have been approved and now building work is well underway. Our journey continues…you can find more information on our FAQs page or read our vision statement
